WORKS IN PROGRESS

Democratic Quality in New Democracies: Housing, Pension, and Enterprise Privatization in East Central Europe. Book manuscript in the process of revision. Through a study of both aggregate outcomes and specific policy areas, this manuscript argues that democratic quality in Eastern Europe is higher than traditionally thought.

Partial Veto Points: The Case of the Czech Senate. This project tries to understand the effects of bicameral institutions with only a suspensory veto – that is, their veto can be overridden by a simple majority of the upper house. It asks whether and under what conditions such institutions can have substantive effects on politics. Current status: Data gathering almost complete.

Consensus in Political Science. Using a large-scale survey of political scientists, this project asks to what extent there is consensus on the main methods and findings of political science. Current status: Pretesting survey instrument.
